Brown (Walter A.) is born in Hopkinton.

Walter Brown attends Boston Latin School and subsequently succeeds his father as general manager of Boston Garden, where he introduces the circus, ice shows, and rodeos to the building. Brown buys the Boston the Celtics in 1946 and becomes one of the founders of the National Basketball Association in 1949. He also serves as president of the Boston Bruins and as an official with the Boston Marathon and U.S. Olympic Committee. Brown dies in Hyannis on September 7, 1964.
